Madiz is one of a few yachts to have survived from the early 20th century, and arguably there is no other yacht of this size, age, and original standing remaining. She was built in 1902 by Ailsa Shipbuilding in Troon, Scotland, and is the largest classic motor yacht currently listed for sale. Madiz can also claim the title of the oldest vessel in operation to have Lloyd’s classification. Originally commissioned by James Coates Jnr, from his friend and now legendary yacht designer G L. Watson, Madiz was intended as something of a mothership or support boat to Coates’ sizable schooner-rigged sailing yacht. Madiz served in the Royal Navy in both world wars, hosted the British Royal Family, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack before passing into the ownership of Costas Keletsekis who in 2003 brought her back to Lloyds 100A1 class. In 2010, Madiz found her current owners and has since been meticulously maintained as a classic yachting icon. The 120-year-old steel-hulled motor yacht, now powered by two Mercedes 250Hp engines, accommodates 14 guests in seven cabins and operates with a crew of 10. The vessel is complemented by a 6m Riva Superflorida tender and a 6m classic launch. Madiz is located in Perama, Athens, where she is available for viewings by prior appointment.
